This photo was taken at the completion/topping out of the dome for the Madison Square Garden Sphere at the Venetian in Las Vegas. The roof structure measures 440 ft in diameter and 90 ft tall. According to the submitter, the triangulated grid-shell dome is comprised of 5,000 tons of structural steel and 32 pie segments.
Now completed, the dome roof is capable of supporting an additional 50 million lb of super-imposed loads, including a 10-in. composite concrete slab, 1,000-ton high-definition media screen, 1,500-ton catwalk and grillage system, 2,000 tons of MEP and AV equipment, 1,300 tons of roofing material and 2,000 tons of live load, according to structural engineer Severud Associates.
